Tune up – Day 10

Epignosis

Epignosis is associated, experiential knowledge. Epignosis conveys the idea of an intimate and personal relationship with the subject or object of the knowledge. For example, I have been to Hugo, Minnesota. You can go look it up on the net and get some gnosis, some information about Hugo, Minnesota. I have been there, walked on it, tasted it, touched it, smelled it, and have seen Hugo with my eyes; I have hugged Hugo, Minnesota personally and intimately. I have epignosis of Hugo, Minnesota.

When we allow precise and accurate associated, experiential knowledge of our relationship with Christ to penetrate our hearts, threshold occurs and we enter into salvation and the abundant life that Christ desires to give us. We obtain life from the Holy Spirit through epignosis. We grow in faith, hope, and love because epignosis resides in our heart.

2 Timothy lets us know that in the end times, it will be very difficult for people in the church.

2 Timothy 3:1-5 MSG Don’t be naive. There are difficult times ahead. As the end approaches, people (in the church) are going to be self-absorbed, money-hungry, self-promoting, stuck-up, profane, contemptuous of parents, crude, coarse, dog-eat-dog, unbending, slanderers, impulsively wild, savage, cynical, treacherous, ruthless, bloated windbags, addicted to lust, and allergic to God. They’ll make a show of religion, but behind the scenes they’re animals. Stay clear of these people . . . they are always learning and never able to come to the knowledge (epignosis) of the truth.

Think about it! These church-goers only have gnosis, their hearts become hard. They only use their animal, reptilian brain and are never able to obtain epignosis. This is the reason the Genesis flood occurred.

Genesis 6:5 RSV – “The LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.”

Genesis 6:5 MSG – “God saw that human evil was out of control. People thought evil, imagined evil—evil, evil, evil from morning to night. God was sorry that he had made the human race in the first place; it broke his heart.”

Epignosis gives wisdom and spiritual intelligence.

Colossians 1:9 – “WUESTNT . . . to pray for you . . . be filled with the knowledge (epignosis) of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding . . . that is spiritual intelligence.”

Epignosis needs to become born-again.

2 Timothy 2:25 – “. . . with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition, if perhaps God may grant them repentance leading to the knowledge (epignosis) of the truth.”

Epignosis is everything for life and godliness.

2 Peter 1:3 – “. . . seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge (epignosis) of Him who called us . . . (vs. 5-6) . . . making every effort to add to your faith knowledge (epignosis) . . .”

2 Peter 1:8 – “For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they render you neither useless nor unfruitful in the true knowledge (epignosis) of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

True knowledge (epignosis) comes from the Spirit through the Word to our human spirit to our brain and is actualized into the world. It takes a commitment, time, and energy to obtain epignosis.

Make every effort to add to your faith, knowledge (epignosis). Decide that you will put the time and energy into meditating upon the Word.

Get epignosis and your heart will transform!

Training Your Brain Exercise – What would you pay?

  • What would you give to have the knowledge of Christ? If you could pay money for the mind of Christ, how much would you pay? If you could labor for it would you?
  • Challenge yourself today to be aware of how much time you spend doing nothing of value.
  • Challenge yourself today to study and meditate upon the wisdom that comes from above!
  • Decide that you will put the time and energy into meditating upon the Word.
  • Decide that you will spend 10 minutes in the Word.

Long for the pure spiritual milk of the Word so that you may grow. (1 Peter 2:2)
