Tune up – Day 14

Work Together for Good

Romans 8:28 NASB – “And we know (oida) that God causes all things to work together (sunergeo) for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.”

God’s Part

The Greek word oida means to know, to recognize, to become conscious with an absolute certainty. This kind of knowing brings one to a settled state of certainty. To come to know with an absolute certainty that the source, the cause of all things is God, and He is the one working all things to my good!

Our Part

The word “work” is from the Greek word sunergeo, which combines two Greek words sun and ergon (root). Sun means to come alongside, companions, partners, co-operate. Ergon means to labor, to work, to perform. So sunergeo (to work together) in Romans 8:28 means to put forth power together, to partner, and cooperate with one another.

James 2:22 NASB – “You see that faith was working (sunergeo) with his works (ergon), and as a result of the works, faith was perfected.”

Romans 8:28 WUESTNT – “And we know with an absolute knowledge that for those who are loving God, all things are working together resulting in good, for those who are called ones according to His purpose.”

So for all things to work together for my good, it is necessary, in the nature of the case, for me to be co-operating with God! Remember, you have a part that is yours to do: you master your emotions (Genesis 4:7), you guard your innermost thoughts (Proverbs 4:23), you destroy strongholds, you make every effort to take thoughts captive (2 Corinthians 10:3-5), you gird your mind for action (I Peter 1:13), and many other verses. You do it with the power of the Holy Spirit! You can do all things through Christ who will strengthen you (Philippians 4:13)!

So remember, you are not alone; you have fellowship with the Holy Spirit and are designed to co-operate with Him in the specific endeavors of life.

Training Your Brain Exercise – Defend

Today if you are tempted, realize immediately that temptation is not sin. Jesus was tempted in all ways but without ever succumbing to the flesh. If you are attacked by images, external or internal, decide that you will see with the mind of Christ. Smash or light on fire any internal memories that randomly pop into your mind. Teach your brain that you are the boss. Do this every single time it pops into your mind. Your brain will learn, fairly quickly, that this is what you want. Do this exercise every single time you are attacked; defend the territory that is yours in Jesus’ name.
