Tune up – Day 30

Doer of the Word

James 1:22 NKJV – “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”

Prove yourself to be a doer of the Word. “Doer” is the Greek word poietes, which means to be a maker of something, a doer! A doer is one who takes a stand, is a go-getter, one who takes action. The English word “poet” and “poem” (poiema) come from this Greek root word poietes.

Romans 1:20 NASB – “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made (poiema), so that they are without excuse.”

Think about it. The creation of the universe was made (poiema); it was constructed as one of God’s poems! God is a doer. Taking action with His divine (ischuos) power, He created the universe.

Ephesians 2:10 NASB For we are His workmanship (poiema), created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.

Think about it. The creation of YOU is also one of God’s poems! You are a living, breathing poem. You are God’s spiritual handiwork in that you were created by Him and made (poiema) a new spiritual creature by Him when His grace made you a Christian.

2 Corinthians 5:17 NASB – “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold new things have come.”

You are to be a doer of God’s Word. You are to take God’s poetry and make an abundant life of it. So you write the poem of your life by being a doer of the Word. If you are not a doer, it demonstrates that you are a superficial hearer only and, if so, stop deceiving yourself. You are to make your life a poem by doing what the Word says not just ineffectual hearing of the Word!

You are to decide to love and not lust. It is a decision regarding what you allow your brain to do. Lust and love are in opposition of each other. Love is a poiema; lust is a distortion and a lie can never be a poiema!
Are you a HEARER only (gnosis) or a DOER of God’s Word?
