Grow and Mature
It is time to wonder some more! To walk by the Spirit and to be led by the Spirit are the means by which we develop and grow. There are four levels of spiritual growth: infants, children, young adults, and parents (James and I John). If you are walking by the Spirit and being led by the Spirit, you will grow and mature in the spirit from infant to spiritual parents in the faith!
The spiritually immature are infants in Christ, carnal Christians acting as men of the flesh! However, the infant in Christ is still IN Christ! Take a close look at the visual below. It graphically shows the reason an infant Christian can act like and look like “men of the flesh.” They depict a person who is actually born again but with a soul filled with worldly strategies and fleshly methods that are used to meet legitimate needs.
1 Peter 1:23 NASB – “For you have been born again not of seed which is perishable but imperishable, that is, through the living and enduring word of God.”
Ephesians 1:13-14 NASB – “In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation—having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is given as a pledge of our inheritance, with a view to the redemption of God’s own possession, to the praise of His glory.”
1 Corinthians 3:1-3 NASB – “And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual men, but as to men of flesh, as to infants in Christ. I gave you milk to drink, not solid food; for you were not yet able to receive it. Indeed, even now you are not yet able . . .”
