Tune up – Day 18

Led by the Spirit

To walk by the Spirit, we must be led by the Spirit.

Galatians 5:18 NASB – “But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law.”

What part of you is being led? We are designed as spirit, soul, and body in God’s image.

1 Thessalonians 5:23 NASB – “Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

1 Corinthians 2:11 NASB – “For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so the thoughts of God no one knows except the Spirit of God.”

The above verses have the human spirit in mind. It is the Spirit of God who knows the thoughts of God, so it is the human spirit who knows the thoughts of the individual man. Our spirit is to be led by God’s Spirit, and our spirit is to lead our soul.

We have been born-again from the seed generated through the Word and by the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is sealed in us (Ephesians 1:18) making it possible to be led by the Holy Spirit.

The world has this system upside down. The mind of the flesh runs the soul, shuts down the human spirit rendering it inoperative. We then become like unreasoning animals rather than conforming to the image of our God (Jude 10). Our work is to reverse the process taught by the world and live life from the top down not the bottom up.

The Holy Spirit leads our human spirit who leads our soul; our soul directs what the body does, which glorifies our God and bears much fruit. The diagram below shows the difference between these two concepts.
